National Drawing Day Promotion in collaboration with the two other LCYPs at Limerick-Clare and Laois-Offaly ETBs and in association with The National Gallery of Ireland (NGI). Young people submitted artwork which formed part of the NGI promotions on the day. This project was conducted via social media @kerrylcyp on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Youth Theatre Grant Scheme: A grant scheme to support new and emerging youth theatres in the county so that young people can access youth theatre at key locations across Kerry. The grant scheme received two applications. The grant recipients include:
- St. John’s Theatre & Arts Centre for Youth Theatre North Kerry. This new youth theatre reaches marginalised young people in North Kerry and was developed in association with Kerry LCYP and KDYS Listowel. Total Grant: €2,000. Support for tutor fees was also provided through the Creative Tutor Pool. Total membership 10. Cost €2700
St. John’s Theatre & Arts Centre for Youth Theatre South Kerry. St. John’s extended its reach to develop a new opportunity for youth theatre in the Cahirciveen area. Taster workshops have been conducted in schools and 22 membership applications have been received to date. Total Grant €2,000. Support for tutor fees was also provided through the Creative Tutor Pool. Total Cost: €2100
- Siamsa Tíre for Free Radicals Youth Theatre. The grant allowed for the continuation of the youth theatre at a financially challenging time for Siamsa Tíre and the expansion of its membership base. Total Membership 34. Total Grant: €10,985
Youth Voice Training:
The importance of child and youth voice is central to the work of the LCYP. Kerry LCYP is supported by Hub Na nÓg at the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth (DCEDIY) and their support is offered to all the LCYP’s in an arrangement with the Department of Education and Creative Ireland. Ensuring Kerry LCYP tutors are confident in the area of youth voice consultation so that children and young people are heard and develop confidence to guide and manage projects is a key ambition of the LCYP programme. Youth Voice Training was delivered by Hub Na nÓg to nine Creative Tutors in Q4. Tutors who took part have skills in visual art, drama, community and culinary arts, photography, construction and drama therapy.
Creative Ireland offered Creativity Training with regard to understanding creativity, its role and value to three Creative Tutors plus the Creative Youth Co-Ordinator. The organisation Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE England) delivered the training. CCE England are advisors to The Arts Council of Ireland on the Creative Schools Programme. This training was aligned to the stimulus funding from Creative Ireland and part of our agreement with Creative Ireland.
