Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB) is governed by a Board, comprising the elected and appointed representatives of its key stakeholders, as laid out in the Education and Training Board Act 2013. The Board is supported by a number of Committees and by Boards of Management of the schools.

As with all state bodies, ETBs serve the interests of Government as shareholder, the taxpayer and all other stakeholders, and pursue value for money in their endeavours, including managing risk appropriately.

The primary legislation governing ETBs is the Education and Training Boards Act 2013 and is also subject to the Code of Practice for the Governance of Education and Training Boards, Circular Letter 0002/2019, which came into effect from 30th January, 2019. The Code of Practice is primarily considered as a set of standards for members and staff of ETBs who are expected to ensure that their activities in relation to the ETB are governed at all times by these standards, in letter and in spirit.

The Chief Executive, with responsibility for executive management of the ETB, is supported by a comprehensive administrative structure covering the key areas including Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, and Corporate Services.

While the Chief Executive has overall responsibility for the performance of the Board services, the Director of FET, Director of Schools, Director of Organisation Support and Development as well as School Principals, FET Centre Managers, Youth Officer, are responsible for the day-to-day management of the schools, centres, and services.
