Kerry Local Creative Youth Partnership (Kerry LCYP) develops local networks and programme collaborations with organisations that want to provide creative opportunities for children and young people in their communities. The programme is implemented within a Creative Ireland timeframe up to 2027. It works in the spirit of partnership, reaching out to community- based settings to collaborate on projects that are creative in nature and prioritise child and youth participation. Creating access for children and young people to express their right to be creative is a priority within the programme. Reaching out to areas that are underserved, more marginalised or to groups of children and young people in need of support is a significant feature of the work.
All workshops, activities, programmes and events are planned, designed and guided by children and young people to support innate creativity, creative experiences and creative skills at local level. Kerry LCYP is part of Creative Youth, an initiative of the all-of-Government Creative Ireland Programme to enable the creative potential of every child and young person. Each project, programme or event focusses on the use of imagination to create something new that has a value to the children and young people who design and participate in the work. We encourage child and youth creativity as a habit of mind which can be improved by creating opportunities to participate in creative experiences.

Working in close partnership with community based organisations, local youth service providers, educational entities and cultural stakeholders, Kerry LCYP follows a child-led methodology in designing and delivering its programme, responding to children and young people’s expressed needs through dialogue and consultation. We do this in line with Hub na nÓg, the Department of Children and Youth Affair’s Youth Participation Unit.
Kerry LCYP’s lead partner is Kerry ETB and it operates its business in line with the management, oversight and compliance functions of Kerry ETB. The project is managed by a full-time Creative Youth Co-Ordinator who is based at Kerry ETB. Delivered under Creative Youth – a cornerstone of the national Creative Ireland Programme, the LCYP helps to promote and sustain a learning ecosystem in which knowledge and creativity are equal partners in the formation of young people. It receives funding on an annual basis from the Department of Education as their responsibility under the Creative Ireland programme, and from Creative Ireland.
Kerry LCYP is fully compliant with the Freedom of Information Acts 1997 and 2003. We operate on a value for money approach and abide by the Public Procurement guidelines. In the management, oversight and compliance related aspects of our work, the expenditure of public funding conforms to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform’s Circular 13/2014.

Child Safeguarding
Kerry LCYP takes its responsibilities with regard to child safeguarding very seriously. In preparing our Child Safeguarding Statement we have untaken a risk assessment of any potential for harm to a child or young person availing of our service, as defined in the Children First Act 2015.
Our Child Safeguarding Statement specifies the service we provide and the principles and procedures we observe in order to ensure, as far as practicable, that a child or young person taking part in LCYP activities is safe from harm. We have set out any potential risk of ‘harm’ and we have procedures in place to reduce identified risks as specified in section 11(3) of the Children First Act 2015. With regard to any instances where the LCYP enters into agreements with third parties, a statement of assurance will be sought in advance from third parties which states they are fully compliant with Child Protection obligations as specified in the relevant Child Protection and Safeguarding legislation.
Kerry LCYP advocates for the positive physical and mental health of young people in its work and collaborates with the work of Jigsaw Kerry where possible here.
